Physiotherapist & Traditional Acupuncturist

Joshua Tan

Professional Background

Josh is an experienced physiotherapist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a traditional acupuncturist registered with the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC). He is also a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).

After graduating from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh in 2016, he began his career in NHS musculoskeletal outpatients while simultaneously working in private practice in London. He spent a period as a chronic pain specialist physiotherapist, and over nine years has treated a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, progressing to Clinical Lead Physiotherapist as an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist at King’s College Hospital, working alongside consultants in rheumatology, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, and sport and exercise medicine. He has never stopped learning — he completed a second honours degree in Traditional Chinese Acupuncture in 2023, and has since trained in Boel acupuncture (AcuNova) and completed the Hintsa Performance coaching certification.

Clinical Focus

Josh is currently embedded full-time with GB Boxing at the UK Sports Institute, supporting the Academy and Podium programmes and travelling internationally with the squad for competition. Alongside this he treats a general musculoskeletal caseload in private practice, from desk-based and everyday pain presentations through to performing artists and athletes.

Treatment Approach

Josh takes an integrative approach, treating the person rather than a single structure. His interest lies in how systems interact — how breathing mechanics, sleep, movement control, tissue capacity and physical load combine to produce a presentation — and he is often most useful to patients whose problem has been looked at system by system without resolving.

His initial assessment focuses on accurate diagnosis and identifying the true driver of a patient’s symptoms, rather than the site at which they are felt. This is followed by treatment combining manual therapy, acupuncture and bespoke rehabilitation, aimed at restoring capacity and confidence in movement.

Treatment Sessions

Physiotherapy appointments are individually tailored and may include manual therapy, acupuncture, cupping, rehabilitation, performance coaching and a biopsychosocial approach.

AcuNova appointments consist of AcuNova acupuncture only and do not include physiotherapy, manual therapy or rehabilitation. It is delivered as a course of intensive treatment blocks, typically ten sessions across five consecutive days, scheduled in advance — please enquire for upcoming dates.

All appointments are one-to-one with Josh for the full session.
